If you're new to online discussion forums this place might seem a bit complicated or cluttered, so I'd like to point out the most important things to know.
First of all, if you have not yet registered as a member, remember there are more members-only discussion boards for people who are interested in Jefferson Sudbury School and want to be informed and perhaps even participate in the events and/or work before the school is established. Find the Register link and sign up. It is quick and easy except maybe the security verification which took me three tries to type in correctly!
When you check out the board for new messages, the easiest way to do this is to click on New Topics in the navigation bar near the top, just under the header banner. Clicking on New Topics will give you page listing the posts in reverse chronological order.
There is a Search function too, also found in the Navigation Bar, in case you'd like to search for something specific in any or all of the discussion boards. It even allows you to choose a range of hours or days and whether to search only threads or individual posts.
I also suggest you click on Profile in the navigation bar and edit it so we can know who is interested in our school. Near the top of your Profile page you'll see links to "Modify Profile," "Bookmarks," and "Social Networks." When you click on Modify Profile you can change your password, name, and other details, add a photo, add a signature that will automatically appear at the end of your posts, and make a lot of account preference choices, which are explained right there on the page.
The Bookmarks feature will allow you to keep track of specific threads you want to follow or just not lose. Whenever you read a thread you want to bookmark, find the "Bookmark" link at the top of the thread in the green bar, on the left. You can also choose to bookmark a thread you start yourself, by checking the first box under the text editor. This will make the thread appear in your Bookmarks list, accessible via your Profile. You also need to go into your Bookmarks and click on Manage Bookmarks in the green bar on the far right to set what kind of notifications you want for bookmarked threads: none, email, or private message.
To post a new message, go into any of the boards by clicking on its title, ie. About Sudbury Philosophy or Introductions, then find the New Thread link on the right side of the green bar. The text editor is similar to any other text editor you've used.
To reply to a message someone else posted, the Reply link is also in the green bar.
That will get you started. Please don't hesitate to post your comments and questions about Sudbury schools in general and Jefferson Sudbury School.
